Conservative means preserving, conserving, staying the same
or going back to something which in the present conservatism movement
is going back to the era before our Constitution

Liberal means liberating, changing, braking molds and
moving forward
The American Revolution was a liberalizing movement a change
from the Monarchy and the creation of a new form of
government, as such it was founded on new ideas meaning
a liberalization from the monarchical and merchantile
ideologies of the past...therefore our revolutionaries were
not conservatives they were liberals in the above sense.
Once they instituted and ratified the constitution, the
World continued to evolve and changed from an agrarian to
an industrial society..this evolution involved many changes
and required many different ways of thinking so the newer
ways required abandoning ideas that at the time failed
and adopting practical ideas to move the country forward
as such we had the Progressive Era of Coolidge and Roosevelt
then the New Deal of the other Roosevelt moving forward
to the Great Society of Johnson...even while going thru
Democratic and Republican administrations both kept on
the progressive liberal process of abandoning things
that did not work for things that worked...and
then we are now where we are today.
These liberalizing revolutionaries of 1776 and the subsequent
liberal thinkers and doers were PRACTICAL not ideological
in that they chose what worked over what did not work. Limited
Government, providing for the common welfare, free market, elimination of slavery, civil rights, bill
of rights all of these are liberalizing therefore liberal
principles...however, the exageration of these such as
capitalism unchecked or wasteful social programs makes
the original values unworkable..so history shows that by
selecting a balance of implementation of these values
is what works...the Great Society of Johnson or the New Deal
of Roosevelt were checks/improvements upon the exaggeration the values
of rugged individualism and exaggeration of free market values.
The Conservative movement as it exists today, is the antidote
of progress and antidote of thinking..it is based on
ideology rather than practicality and it is based on going
back rather than forward to a past that while a liberal past
it cannot be re-lived since the World is not the same. The
Conservative movement does not however accept this and instead
denies the past or the present and thinks that only the
ideology is the truth while the facts don't matter.
The Conservative movement in all its expressions is an idealistic
theoretical view and not a realistic liberating view
of reality as such it is always doom to fail. It is trying
to bring back or goback to ideas that did not work
while eliminating those that worked that is the reeingeniring
discussed.
