Chris Matthews: GOP A ‘Ruling Class’ Committed To Rights Of ‘White Men Of Property’
Matthews said that the Republican party has become composed of individuals who have become convinced that they are a “ruling class” who are entitled to positions of power like the presidency.MSNBC host Chris Matthews’ final thought on Monday centered on his belief that the Republican party is composed of individuals committed to the rights of “white men of property” over the freedoms of minority and female voters. He said that Republicans believe they are a “ruling class,” and that this is “their country to rule.”
He went on to say that those Republican voters who idolize the Founding Fathers do not espouse their liberal views on the brotherhood of man and equality among classes, but share only their commitment to advance the rights of “white men of property.”
“Why did, why do, the Romney people believe – weeks after the election – that this is their country to rule,” Matthews asked. “That there must be some unknown aspect of what just happened that renders it meaningless to them.”
Matthews said that Republican efforts to suppress the minority vote is symptomatic of a view that holds themselves as an unassailable ruling class — a view that cannot be shaken, even in the wake of a loss.
